The Heartbeat Retreat
Facilitated by Mila Redwood & Baelyn Elspeth
Journey into the heartbeat of the earth, through our 5-day women's retreat on Orcas Island, Washington. Nestled in the ancient cedar forest, we guide each woman on a journey of rhythm and song, nourishment and love. Through our retreats, we are devoted to holding sacred space where women are deeply nourished, celebrated, and honored for who they are, where beauty and joy have no limits. We sleep under the starry sky, provide organic meals from the garden, swim in the pond, sing in the sauna, and dance under the moonlight. Join us for five days on the Salish Sea...

Find Your Voice.
The voice is the muscle of the soul. We were born to sing, it is our birthright. When we sing together, it creates a sense of belonging that nourishes the spirit. Through daytime workshops and evening song circles, Mila and Baelyn will guide our group on a journey of wild sound. Discover the beauty and power of your own voice, and learn songs that you can take home and share with your community. All voices are welcome, and no singing experience required.
Discover your Heartbeat.
“The Moon is the primordial symbol of rhythm, for as it waxes and wanes, it exerts real influence on the earth, controlling the rhythms of the tides and the cycles of women. It is the ultimate symbol of rhythm and the oldest way of marking time.” – Layne Redmond, When the Drummers Were Women.
The drum is a tool to open the heart. It connects our own heartbeat to the rhythm of Mother Earth, awakening our deepest calling and life purpose. It is a symbol of the ancient feminine, of the moon and the cycle of life. In ancient times, it was the women who played the drum, guiding the seasons around the sun, and the rhythms of daily life. Together, through drum circles and rhythm practices, we will explore the power of the drum, and connect with the rhythm of our own heartbeat. Please note that we will not be making drums at this retreat.
Awake in Tea Ceremony.
Each morning, we rise beneath a canopy of majestic old growth trees, and come together in the gentle space of Tea Ceremony, for morning meditation. Tea is a feminine plant and can reflect to us the true power of the feminine. Used in ceremony, it is a dance between the elements, a sensory exploration of presence, where everything is connected by space. Tea meets us exactly where we are and gives exactly what is needed. She is a graceful, strong, compassionate teacher. She shows us a doorway, opens it, and gives one the choice to enter wherever one feels comfortable. We are blessed to have Baelyn serve Tea Ceremony each morning, as we welcome the day ahead.
A big part of the Orcas Island experience, is sinking into the home-grown food culture on island. We delight in providing you with the highest-quality meals, sourced from local, organic, living foods, most of which are grown on the land where our retreat is held. Our meals are prepared with love and kindness by our Kitchen Magician Jackie Rose, and are primarily plant-based, whole foods, supplemented with local fresh goat cheese, smoked salmon, and fermented goods hand-crafted by our neighbors. Orcas Island is a part of San Juan County, the only county in all of North America where GMO foods have never been grown – not one seed. The soil here is pure as gold, and the food is a living prayer.
Love & Sisterhood.
Our retreat is a time for you to truly retreat in every sense of the word - to give yourself the gift of time, space, and love. To nourish yourself deeply, and fill up the reservoir that feeds you. Together, we will journey into self-love mode, as we sink into the stillness of the land, sleep under the star-lit sky, eat organic meals from the garden, swim in the pond, sing in the sauna, and dance under the moonlight. It is also a time to be in Sisterhood, to connect with a community of women who support, nourish, and celebrate your truest self. This is the ultimate gift, to be in the loving embrace of the feminine heart, to welcome and accept each other as we truly are.
